The Nahostforum e.V., an NGO based in the German capital Berlin, is alarmed by the incredible news on the murder and wounding of hundreds of Palestinians  living in the Ghaza region  by the current Israeli military attacks.

Once again the ruling Israeli politicians  are undertaking unappropriate actions using its large war machinery in order  to undermine any serious political   solution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict  thereby offending the United Nations resolutions and  the political  efforts of   the Near East Quartet.

The strikes are demonstrating that Israel is still believing  in the policy of war and pressure , defying the basic norms of international law, human rights and even  humanitarian behaviour.

Obviously the ruling politicians- eager to accept Palestinian victims in their  electoral campaign- are  still not yet ready to draw lessons from history, including the recent Israeli disaster in Lebanon.

The Nahostforum is still supporting any international effort to bring peace and stability  into this  area –since a lasting and equitable solution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is only possible and reachable by political means.

That is why we are demanding an immediate stop of all military actions directed against  the Palestinian people and urgent measures to arrange medical assistance to  the  wounded children, youngsters, women and men. Military strikes by all fighting forces,the erection of walls and fences on Ghaza , thereby provoking hunger and misery  is only favouring hatred and instability.

We need very much serious action by all peace loving forces in the world to make an immediate end to the bloodshed and to encourage  trust and mutual understanding through the road of political negotiations. In this framework we strongly support  the recent appeals of  the UN Secretary General  and the Near East Quartet as well as the UN Security Council resolution on this matter.

We demand decisive action from the German Head of Government, Ms. Angela Merkel , since we are bearing- due to the Holocaust- a special responsibility for both affected peoples- the Israeli and the Palestinian. We have to assist them to find back to the road of peace and negotiations. As a German NGO we feel duty bound to take all action needed to stop any encouragement   of military adventures and of warfare against a people vicitimised so hardly in recent years  just because it requires  self-determination and  rights  enshrined in the UN charter.
